Living “The Good Life”
We have been watching The Good Life tv series lately, just finished with season 2. Thanks to Sarah for gifting me the DVDs
I love it, they remind me a lot of us – however Tom & Barbara are probably a lot nicer than we are lol – in their quest for self-sufficiency. I love Margo, she cracks me up with her comments and the fact that she hardly ever cracks a smile!
The weather here has been wet & humid, we seem to have our own little mini-climate because the lawns are nowhere near as dry as Palmerston North or the Wairarapa, we’ve had much more rain than them. Sadly it’s the perfect weather for weeds to grow, but I finally got out in the garden today & got rid of them.
The sunflowers that I planted around the place have finally been showing their pretty faces. The one in the vege garden is huge – twice my size, with a face so big it can’t actually hold it up properly.

The sunflowers by the bees aren’t nearly as big as the one in the garden, but are still so pretty!

The monarch caterpillars have been stripping my huge swan plants, I didn’t think they’d manage it with all the foliage that’s on there, but they have! There are at least 30 chrysalis on there, & probably many more than that cos it was a count I did from the office window not outside. Yay for monarchs! It’s lovely to see them flying about the garden.

The pumpkins have taken over the garden at the front of the house, it’s so cool how they are rambling everywhere. They’ve even gone up and over one of the big rocks in it.

& I finally got around to plaiting the garlic yesterday, there’s 3 plaits of 15 heads and then two bunches of smaller ones. It tastes delicious too, will be interesting to see if it all lasts us until the next harvest.

This is one of the smaller plaits, I have hung them all up around the windows in the kitchen – there won’t be any vampires in that part of the house!
The chicks are growing up fast, & we have a new addition to the chook family too – a frizzle black bantam. She’s really cute, but it has been hard to introduce her to the others as she is by herself & also so different than them.

Four of the seven chicks

With “Mum”, Audrey

The only one I know for certain we are going to keep, this is Teal’c
Toto hasn’t made friends with the others yet, but I am hoping that she will eventually.

WOW! see what you mean about the caterpillars eating the plants – brilliant before and after pic! You have way more caterpillars than I do. I think a lot of mines are being eaten by the wasps just now.
