It has been busy the past week, a bit of a rollercoaster with ups and downs.
This year I’m studying pre-vet at Massey University in Palmerston North. On Monday I picked up my tag for the Massey Lets Get Going programme which is an orientation week for new students at the uni. Monday night Paul & I went to the welcome dinner. It was really enjoyable, there were speeches by the Massey officials, Palmy mayor & a fantastic guy who is part of the UniSmart group. Chris from UniSmart did a great job, it was an enjoyable presentation & very relevant for the young ones.
Tuesday was the start of the LGG programme, it went for three days & was very informative. It was a great way to meet other people doing the same papers as me, & it really highlighted how much support there is on campus for students. The sessions were on all sorts of things – strategic reading, assignment tips, sports & rec centre, Massey Uni Students Association, budgeting etc. I would highly recommend it to any new students, I feel much more comfortable with campus & can’t wait to get started on Mon 28th.
Sadly Tuesday was also the day the destructive Christchurch earthquake hit. It has never been far from my mind since, it’s so hard to see the devastation & not be able to help out. I’m so proud of the way the greater NZ community has banded together & helping the people of Christchurch where they can. Hang in there Christchurch <3
Tuesday night our lamb Norman passed away. Even though we were eventually going to be eating him, it was so much harder to say goodbye this way. He got a worm & went downhill really quickly, very sad. Another reason why Tuesday was a downer.
I am looking forward to starting on Monday, first lecture is at 9am – bring it on! I am sure I will super tired on Monday night, but it’s all worth it
